Just move forward
Did the lockdown make us crazy? Will the Kraken get us.
Write it right. Now.
So, all I keep hearing is "avoid these types of people". I think I'll just avoid enough people to end up a as bittersweet dream.
I'm not going to wax philosophical. I'm not going to enter quotes and tell you what you should be doing with your own time. It is yours. Own it. Laze around, shop till you drop, enjoy the pub. Whatever you want.
What I can say is this:
How does your behaviour affect those around you? I know I damn near drive people insane just doing my own thing. I get it. I live with others. In a patriarchal community. However, that does not give you the right to judge my personal behaviour.
I get up. I run around like a lost duckling. I exercise, I practice. Keyword: Practice. I am learning to conduct a media company. I've returned to my roots. I write. It's a dirty business that does not inspire trust or adoration. It's not a book. There are no movie rights (I'm working on that).
It is journalism today. Raw talent can put up a good fight, but it's not going to win a fight with international newsrooms. I don't have 25+ research assistants, I do not have my make-up done and wear designer clothes on screen. Not yet.
Obviously, I believe that I will. Sooner rather than later. However, the stark reality is this: the economic market has collapsed. Anyone hear about that? Does this ring a bell? Am I willing to relocate? Heck yes! To somewhere they allow a "a white girl to write" - Yes, that one's courtesy of "The luckiest girl" on Netflix S.A.(Africa) and I'm taking notes. Hey, I just heard this. ;-o
It might be a parody but, it speaks to my inner cynic. That is a lie. We can write, we just cannot be the "face" of the news. I'm just that one person with drive. That one who always responds a bit faster than the rest. The petite package that packs a punch.
I do more and I do it better than the rest to grab that "exclusive interview. That interview on tape. On film. It's a lifestyle I enjoy. Now, where did I put that camera and mic? On my Wishlist? You bet.
Do I enjoy writing? Yes, I truly do. I need this, I want this, I want more. I'll act. I'll sing. I'll do stand-up. I will create YouTube Shorts, make my TikTok videos, feed my thread on Twitter. I'll advertise on every social platform currently available. I've downloaded Anchor, Telegram, Snapchat, Medium - I'm on Skype, in video meetings with the rich and famous via WhatsApp. I have different e-mails for different people. From different companies.
Am I exhausted, nowhere close! Have I suffered? Try it. One of these days I'll seclude myself like Jane Goodall and live with the apes. I'll see the African dawn and have sundowners in the Namibian dessert.
I'll fly back to Paris for the new fashion week. Spend a week in Parys too unwind.
However, as a newbie, I'm not asking for sympathy. I'm working on endorsements. So, endorse me.
The media inserts will start to appear. The adverts won't show here. So please fellow LinkedIn members, authors, psychiatrists, musicians, artists, actors, data-mining CEO's, independent music labels. The police force, the military, the aviation engineers, the doctors, the paramedics. Come speak to me.
Confidential. Private. Off the record. Until you say "Publish". Then I'll write up a storm. I'll deal with it. I always do, and thus far…I'm good. Still in the starting grid, but ready to take off.
Now, I'm off to the races (as they say)
RELAX.
I will be back.
a footnote from the original: John Cashman
"Growing a distributed team"
A distributed team is one that works together but from different locations and (sometimes) embedded in other teams. Setting up a distributed team with a lot of new hires, we knew we needed to have robust processes for growth so people could work together efficiently from the get-go.
